How to Solve Linear Equation in One Variable

In this lesson.. let me help you go through on how to solve linear equation in one variable. Before that.. let me explain .. what is all about linear equation.

What is linear Equation:-
Linear equations can have one or more variables. Linear equations occur with great regularity in applied mathematics. While they arise quite naturally when modeling many phenomena, they are particularly useful since many non-linear equations may be reduced to linear equations by assuming that quantities of interest vary to only a small extent from some "background" state.

What is linear one variable?
An equation is an equality connecting some unknowns. The unknowns are represented by "letters" and are called "the variables". If the equation has only one unknown, it is called "an equation in one variable". The word "Linear" means "of degree one".Hence if only a single variable with degree one occurs in an equation, it is called a linear equation in one variable

An equation involving one variable with highest power 1, is called a linear equation in the variable.
Example : Each one of the equations given below is a linear equation
(i) 5x + 7 = 22
(ii) 2y – 5 = 4y – 9
(iii) z/3 – z/4 = 8
